Piano Lessons

Traditional music lessons produce students that are able to sight-read and perform solo pieces, but are lacking in other areas that make music enjoyable for the student and for the family. Merriam Music has created one of North America’s most innovative and highly acclaimed teaching methods, and is one which can help make the experience of learning to play the piano a more effective one. The Keyfest Method teaches students to learn the fundamentals by gradual, progressive exercises and sequenced repertoire.

Playing the piano encourages social development and cooperation, for students learn that they sometimes have to rely on others to produce a musical performance. This learned cooperation can have positive repercussions in other facets of their lives as they’ve already experienced the benefits of collaboration. In addition, scientific research has shown that listening to music affects human intelligence. Because playing music leads to constant decision making (keeping up with the group and preparing for what is coming ahead), children that have had piano lessons may be able to learn more easily and store information better than children who don’t know how to play a musical instrument.

For those students that are especially gifted, the Enriched Studies Program (which is the first of its kind in Eastern Canada), provides an opportunity to develop their talent to the fullest extent possible. These students will have the change to participate in a variety of festivals, competitions, ensembles, private master coaching and master classes, and public performances.
