The Venetian school of instrument making dates back hundreds of years, back to the earliest instruments in Europe. Its location as an ideal port of distribution, combined with its adjacent position to the world’s finest spruce stock, has always had appeal to instrument builders who were seeking the most talented artisans and best materials. Fazioli pianos, widely regarded as the finest piano available, is made 45 minutes from Venice. Stradivarius Violins, the most expensive instruments in the world, were made just 20 minutes from Fazioli’s factory. And less than one hour away, is the small but equally distinguished piano shop of Schulze-Pollmann.
Schulze Pollmann was formed in 1928 by the merger of two Germany piano builders that had moved to Italy. The founding partner, Paul Pollmann, worked for many years with Ibach in Barmen and with Steinway & Sons in Hamburg before opening his own piano factory at Unna.
Italian auto manufacture Ferrari Motor Car has selected Schulze Pollmann as a partner in the launch of its new Ferrari 612 Scaglietti series automobiles. For the occasion, Schulze Pollmann has crafted a limited edition grand piano whose case sports the Ferrari racing red while the cast-iron plate is in the Ferrari grey carbon, the same as the engine of the Scaglietti. This is another example of fine Italian craftsmanship at its best. Merriam Pianos is proud to be the exclusive representative for Schulze Pollmann in Canada
