Summer Camp Staff

Merriam School of Music is hiring Summer camp staff for our 2019 camp season. 

We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic individuals to join our summer camp team! Enjoy a summer teaching music in a fun, friendly atmosphere with rewarding, character building work experiences!

Salary and Work Schedule

  • Seasonal (start July 8, 2019); Monday-Friday 8:45am to 4:45pm; extended care shifts available starting 8am until 6pm
  • Attends and fully participates in all pre-camp training & staff meetings

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a positive role model for children, youth and fellow staff
  • Provides direct supervision to a group of children every day (ratio 1:8)
  • Plans and delivers fun, age appropriate programs as outlined during training and by the Supervisor
  • Builds rapport and manages group behavior to ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment for children and youth
  • Ensures the delivery of high quality camp programs while ensuring safety
  • Fully and enthusiastically participates in all camp activities, including all program and special events
  • Recognizes the uniqueness and interests of all children and youth and assists them to successfully achieve their goals at camp
  • Models appropriate behavior in all interactions with co-workers, other YMCA staff and the public, ensuring behavior aligns with Merriam’s core values at all times
  • Accesses program resources and seeks support from Supervisor to ensure the delivery of a wide range of age appropriate programs for children and youth
  • Ensure all communication with co-workers, families, partners, other Merriam staff and the public is professional and courteous at all times
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain and deal with sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism

Knowledge, Skill, Ability and Experience

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Have professional experience and post-secondary education on your musical instrument or area of expertise
  • Experience planning and leading programs for children and youth
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR ‘C’ prior to the first day of camp
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective conflict resolution skills
  • Strong team work and leadership skills
  • Experience working within a summer day camp or residential day camp program is an asset

Content and Copy Writer

Background and Needs

Merriam Music, founded in 1988, is one of the largest music education and retail companies in Canada, with more than 3,500 students weekly, and the largest piano unit sales of any retailer in Canada. Merriam Music is engaged in a number of digital development initiatives that require us to foster and acquire new talent in the areas of digital content production and marketing, amongst others.

Merriam Music is seeking both contract and full-time candidates with relevant education and work experience and any or all of the following skill sets:

  • Ad copy

  • Copywriting

  • Strategic messaging

Additional experience in digital marketing and general working familiarity with various online marketing practices including conception, construction, and management of marketing funnels, traffic aggregation and interception strategies, and paid advertising platforms such as Google AdWords, Facebook Ads, Google AdSense, or Amazon Affiliate Programs are considered assets, but are not required for application.

Job Requirements and Description:

The candidate will be required to produce copy for a variety of applications on an ongoing basis. The requirements for the copy will be clearly defined by the Digital Marketing and Development Manager. This may include the production of

Landing pages / Web page copy including:

  • Headlines
  • Sub-headlines
  • Product features
  • Unique selling propositions

Strategic copy

  • Program or product descriptions for online or offline applications
  • Press releases

  • Poster and visual display advertising
