Mandy Thai is a recent graduate from Western University of Canada, having completed a four year Bachelor of Music with Honors in Education, majoring in Percussion under the guidance of Dr. Jill Ball. She began studying piano at the age of three, and started classical percussion at the age of ten. She has performed as a solo freelance musician and with a variety of ensembles, such as the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Western’s Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble, the Stratford Symphonic Orchestra, and the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra.
She has had the experience of performing in venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall, Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall, and Toronto’s own Centre for the Arts. Mandy has also appeared as a mentor, teaching assistant, and clinician at various music camp programs, such as York Region’s “York Music Camp” (YMC) and the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra’s (TYWO) “The Band Camp.” Mandy greatly supports music education as a part of Ontario’s Curriculum, as well as the arts in general as an expressive outlet and a universal form of communication. She also advocates the therapeutic aspects of music and music education as a benefit to mental health, and has worked closely with Kerry Byers of Music Therapy London as a volunteer. Mandy is very passionate about the arts, and hopes to inspire the same passion in the young musicians of tomorrow.
