My name is Nicole Yoshimura and I am a violinist. Born and raised in the small town of Norfolk County (Simcoe) I had to travel far and wide to find music teachers and camps. After moving to the big city, I encountered many music opportunities that opened my eyes to the possibilities of teaching and diversifying my passion. In the pursuit of music,
I became aware that I could not survive life without it and decided to go to school for music at Western University. After graduating the Honors Music Education Program I have a new appreciation for jazz and choral works as well as: English, philosophy, and psychology. I will be continuing my studies at OISE for teaching music and English in September 2014 so that I may be able to share my love of music to kids at school.
Merriam School of Music shares a similar philosophy to my own in terms of its purpose and function. Music, in my life, has been transformational in two ways: it has taught me how to approach situations from multiple viewpoints and secondly, it has helped me to become better at expressing myself to those around me.
Overall, music has shaped me into a more critical thinker and open minded person.
