VIOLIN INSTRUCTOR

Job Description

🎹

Violin Teachers

Violin has become a cornerstone musical instrument for early music education, prominent within the Suzuki Method as well as others. Merriam is fortunate to count many violin professionals as long-term members of our staff.

We’re seeking violin instructors who can inspire, with a deep love and knowledge of music theory, an appreciation for the wide range of musical genres that violin can participate in, and a keen interest in maintaining their own musical journey.

Here at Merriam you’ll join our team of pros, and foster your own career at the same time. You’ll have the opportunity to advance within the school and play increasingly important roles in helping to shape students’ lives and the future of the school.

A violin instructor position at Merriam is evidence that a “music teacher job” doesn’t need to be part-time, temporary, or unfulfilling. In fact, it’s entirely the opposite, and to learn more, we hope that you’ll apply to join our team.

Responsibilities

🎹

Violin Teachers

We welcome all styles of violinist to apply: whether you’re purely classical, have been fiddling since 3, a plug-in for electric stylings a la Trans Siberian Orchestra, or a little jazz in the style of Stéphane Grappelli.

And, we’re seeking out two very unique and valuable types of violinists for our school: full and part-time core instructors, and professional performers who connect less frequently.

Firstly, our academy of music is built upon the long-term commitment of our teaching staff. Many of our core teachers have been with the school for over a decade, and our most engaged and successful teachers consider this a professional home and a place to foster their careers.

But additionally, we are also seeking professional performers with active music-industry careers who find satisfaction in sharing their knowledge and enhancing their income in a flexible, credible way. These artists act as adjudicators, guest lecturers, course contributors, remote coaches for elite students, and content contributors.

Our teachers hail from throughout the GTA, including Etobicoke, Markham, Richmond Hill, North York, Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville, Mississauga, Toronto, Vaughan, Brampton, Scarborough, and more. As we expand online, however, we’d love to hear from you regardless of where you are, from Dartmouth to Brantford, Guelph to Gatineau, Alberta to Quebec, Stouffville to Saskatoon, Port Coquitlam to Port Dover.

Regardless of what job type you apply for, the age group of the students, your past job titles, or whether you have a bachelor’s degree or doctorate, we value musicianship (not necessarily virtuosity) and a genuine connection with educating above all else. Successful candidates will have post-secondary education, except where recognized success in the music industry or exceptional prior teaching experience provides a similar depth of knowledge.

ABOUT US

Merriam Music

We’re a company driven by mission, aided by the latest technologies at every turn, and joined in a community of music. Founded by Alan Merriam in 1988, himself a professional musician, this company is built and run by musicians and music lovers at the deepest levels.

Not everyone at Nike runs half-marathons. Not everyone at Boeing flies. But every key employee at Merriam Music has music in their blood at a deep level. The CEO is a pro-level jazz pianist and rhythm aficionado. The director of operations can teach you about subdivision, key signatures, and tonality. Our IT director used to manage one of Toronto’s most famous recording studios. Our Marketing and Sales director is also a professional performer and producer. Our CFO is in a professional bell choir. Our sales team counts no less than 6 professional performers amongst them.

When your product is music, it’s a different kind of company when it’s built and run by musicians.
