Yamaha pianos are a symbol of reliability and craftsmanship that few other brands can touch. A good condition Yamaha upright piano is practically the default recommendation by piano teachers the world over, and models such as the U1, C3, or G2 are amongst the most well-known in history. Yamaha pianos also have a unique voice, trending towards a brighter, clean tone that still delivers good sustain, a slightly lighter touch than its main competitors Kawai or Steinway, and straightforward design that makes them easy to maintain.
Yamaha Upright Pianos
B/C Series - (44" - 48") These entry-level instruments are Indonesian-built, usually equipped with basic yet higher-quality materials, and aimed at beginners or applications where reliability is a higher priority than musical performance.
U Series - (48" - 52") An excellent balance of reliability and musical quality. The U1 and U3 models (and their derivatives such as U10, U100 etc) are made in Japan, using high quality strings, hammers, and spruce, and ideal for both beginners and intermediate players
UX Series (52") - A discontinued line of pianos, famous for their giant "X" back frame designs. The instruments have a large, resonant tone, and are best for larger spaces and more advanced players.
YUS Series (48" - 52") - Upgraded U series pianos with improved hammers and strings, with more finishing time at the factory. While tonally similar, they feature improved sensitivity and control and generally a better bloom and sustain time.

C Series - (5'3" - 7'6") The upgraded C series released in the late 1970's and included strengthened frames, improved soundboard and scale designs, thicker bridges and higher-quality hammers and strings. Institutional favorites include the C3 and C7 models.
A / GB / GC Series - When the original G series was discontinued, it generally divided into the GB (lower tier) and GC (mid-tier) lines with a mix of Indonesian and Japanese manufacturing between them. Generally, much of the same design and specifications carried over from the original G series.
