perzina brand logo

In those days the company letterhead stated ‘’The Largest Piano Factory in Northern Germany’’. Around 1900 the company expanded rapidly. This was mostly the work of Daniel Huss, a son in law of Julius Perzina. Between 1897 and 1917 he was the owner and manager. What started with a production of 20 pianos in1871 had flourished to 1000 in 1910. Perzina had its own steam-driven sawmill, there were branches all over Germany and Europe and a world spanning distribution network was established. Customers in Asia, South America and Australia were gladly served. The export to the wide tableau covering all kinds of pianos in many types and colors. There were also electric pianos (pianolas), and of course the Grand Production of Perzina Grand Pianos Started in 1905. Just like the uprights, the grand pianos easily found their way to concert halls, conservatories and music lovers.

The turnaround of 1990 re-united the German People once again. Free enterprise got the chance to rebuild the East. The ‘’Deutsche Treuhand Anstalt ’’. Responsible for the organization of the economic transition, looked to the west for new investors for the Perzina asset. This was a unique opportunity for a group of investors with a long established experience in the production and trade of pianos. After many decades of not producing pianos, the company was reorganized with the principles and values of the Perzina brothers in mind, and again experienced international success. The production process has been thoroughly modernized. Thus a young Chinese-Made Perzina, with a name only 130 years old, is now available again. All over the world piano’s wearing their ‘’Gebrüder Perzina-signature’’, are once again heard.

Mason & Hamlin is a forward-thinking company that invests time and millions of dollars in creating its products. But along with its eye to the future is one trained on the past. That’s why the factory’s top floor showroom will one day house the Mason & Hamlin Museum, where vintage instruments, artifacts and memorabilia will be on display to the public. The museum and creation of the Mason & Hamlin Historical Preservation Society are just two ways the company is honoring its long and illustrious history.

“Mason & Hamlin pianos have a mystique about them,” explained Gary Burgett, who owns the company with his brother, Kirk. “There are countless Mason & Hamlin aficionados around the world. When we bought the company 1996, we heard from so many of them, all grateful that we were going to keep this great piano alive. They encouraged and inspired us. Now we’d like to show our appreciation for their interest support with a special website where they can share their stories about the pianos they love, meet fellow Mason & Hamlin fans, and also have a place to see Mason & Hamlin treasures. We hope that someday soon everyone who’s interested will be able to come to our factory, see how we’re making our pianos today, what we have planned for the future, and then enjoy a glimpse at our past.”

shigeru brand logo

Over one hundred years ago, in a humble workshop in Japan, Koichi Kawai embarked upon a journey—a spiritual quest to design and build a piano that would one day be called “the finest.” A generation later, this dream burned intensely in the heart of Shigeru Kawai. To Shigeru, the dream represented not just his origins, but his destiny—an unrelenting force that would launch a lifetime of devotion in the pursuit of perfection.

In the Shigeru Kawai piano, you will see not just his labor and his love but his life.

A Shigeru piano is much more than the intelligent application of material, labor and design. It is an art form born not from the head, but from the heart. Thus, the craftsman does far more than simply “build” it—he brings it to life.

The sensitive nurturing of every part, every joint, every subtle nuance vests each piano with an intangible quality—a soul—that lives on from generation to generation. And those who own a Shigeru piano know that they possess not merely an instrument, but a partner in the musical pursuit of dreams.

grotrian brand logo

Pioneering Spirit

The piano manu- facturer GROTRIAN is family-owned and currently in the fifth and sixth gene- rations. Across the years one thing has never changed: the love for music. This has always been and still re- mains the motivation even for unusual steps. In 1830 Friedrich Grotrian left Germany to establish a music busi- ness in Moskva. The town prospered and attracted many musicians like Clara Schumann, Franz Liszt and Arthur Rubinstein. Friedrich Grotrian main- tained close relationships with many pianists and got to know their preferences. He started to build pianos. Pianos, which were loved by pianists.

Partnership

When Friedrich Grotrian returned to his home country, he became partner of a piano factory which was founded in 1835. In 1865 the Grotrian family took over the remaining shares of the com- pany and from this time the Grotrian family is the only owner of the company until today. Some years later the company was taken over by Wilhelm Grotrian, who phrased the important motto for Grotrian in telling his sons: Lads, build good pianos and the rest willtake care of itself.

Insipirations

In the end of the 19th century Wilhelm Grotrian sent his sons Kurt and Willi on an international journey to gain experience in piano building. They combined their newly acquired knowledge with the crafts- manship inherent in Germany. Along with other important inventions, some that continue to be important for the piano trade as a whole to this day, the combination of knowledge and craftsmanship led to the Grotrian star- shaped back-frame and the popular upright piano.

Continuity

The generations that followed continued to develop revolutionary innovations for the piano. The Grotrian piano factory was comple- tely destroyed in the Second World War, but thanks to the persevering energy and courage of Helmut and Erwin Grotrian, the sons of Kurt Grotrian, the production was restored very soon after the war. Knut Grotrian (5th generation) constructed a new factory in 1974, which continues to be the place of production today it is located in “Grotrian Street” in Braun- schweig. The basis of our tradition remains unchanged: a unique tone and love for music.

steinberg brand logo

The home piano industry has exploded over the last two decades, spawning nearly 50 brands from more than a dozen different manufacturers.  The rise in customers looking for a beautiful accent piece for their home (in the form of a shiny-black piano) who don’t necessarily need top-notch acoustical quality has meant that there is now more selection between $3000 – 5000 than there is from $5000 – $200,000.  The sheer volume of options in this category can be mind-numbing f0r customers to sort through, so imagine our surprise when we realized that we had an elegant, near-perfect solution right under our noses.  Gerh. Perzina, the venerable German piano maker, has been producing Gerh. Steinberg for years (the brand originated in 1908), but until recently, they were only offering the pianos in Europe.  The pianos feature several significant value-adds that very few, if not any, pianos in this price point can compete with.  The Austrian White Spruce soundboard is definitely one.  The solid, aged hornbeam action is no-doubt another.  And the deep black BASF polyester certainly adds a beautiful mark of visual distinction.

With two upright and one grand model, the Gerh. Steinberg has become a dominant offering in Canada when it comes to home and high-level student pianos, and for as little as 10% more than the absolute entry-point into the market, their value can’t be argued.
