D.H. Baldwin pianos, including the popular C172 model, were manufactured by Samick in Korea. The C172 model is a 5’8” medium grand piano that was Asian manufactured, but still possesses the bold American tone one would expect from a piano donning the Baldwin brand. It possesses a warm, rich tone with an impressive bass response thanks to the longer scale design, which accommodates a larger soundboard and longer bass strings. The C172 models are built to very high specifications, which offers excellent tuning stability and a reliable action.
About Baldwin Pianos
Founded by Dwight Hamilton Baldwin, the origin of the legendary Baldwin Piano Company dates back to 1857. The company began as a piano dealership and eventually grew to become the largest piano dealer in the Midwest by the end of the 19th century. However, D.H. Baldwin’s primary ambition was to produce “the best piano that could be built”. In 1891, Baldwin launched its first upright piano. A few years later, in 1895, the company’s first grand piano followed. The rest is history as one might say.
