Casio’s Privia PX series is a massive player in the entry-level and mid-range market and has been so for quite some time. The new PX-S Privia digital pianos hit the market a few years ago and continued this legacy with some of the most popular digital pianos in the class.

With Casio successfully expanding into the premium tier with their Celviano GP Grand Hybrid series home digital pianos in recent years, it only made sense that we would eventually see either a new line of higher-end portable digital pianos or an expansion of the Privia PX-S series.

With the release of the new PX-S series instruments, Casio has delivered in a big way, gifting the market with three new professional quality digital pianos – the PX-S5000, PX-S6000 and PX-S7000.

The PX-S7000 sits at the top of the heap and now serves as the flagship model of the Privia PX-S series as a whole. Expanding on many of the cutting-edge features found in the portable PX-S6000, the PX-S7000 also adds a sleek, integrated stand and triple pedal system resulting in a premium all-in-one stage piano.

With a stunning appearance and three distinct finish options available, the PX-S7000 is perfect for those seeking a beautiful showpiece for the home. At the same time, its extensive list of cutting-edge features including the advanced AiR tone engine and Spatial Sound System, Smart Hybrid Hammer Action Keyboard, 400 pro-quality sounds, the option for battery operation and an array of controller features means its also more than up for the demands of professional stage and studio musicians.

Piano Action:

The launch of Casio’s new PX-S models has brought us a brand new, advanced key action in the form of the Smart Hybrid Hammer Action Keyboard.

Taking the premise of the Smart Scaled Hammer Action Keyboard featured in the PX-S1100 and 3100, the new Smart Hybrid action features an upgraded mechanical design and incorporates the weighting of the hammers just like a real acoustic piano.

The white keys are made from a composite of wood and resin, which offers superior durability to plastic and also better mimics the feel of an acoustic piano key action. The keytops of the white and black keys are synthetic ivory and ebony which provides a great tactile texture for your fingers.

Casio’s 88-Key Digital Scaling technology means the keys are grade-weighted like an upright or grand piano, and you’re also given quite a bit of control over the action to customize it to your liking including editable Hammer Response, Key Off Response and Key Simulator.

Piano Sound:

The PX-S7000 is extremely well appointed from a sound perspective, equally at home as an acoustic piano replacement with rich, complex concert grand piano tones (the Berlin, Hamburg and New York from their GP series), while at the same time possessing a full arsenal of 400 total onboard tones including studio-quality electric pianos, synths and many more.

The sound engine powering everything is Casio’s award-winning Multi-Dimensional AiR Sound Source, which is built around carefully recorded samples of acoustic grand pianos, combined with resonance modelling courtesy of the Acoustic Simulator which recreates acoustic phenomena such as String Resonance, Damper Resonance, Open String Resonance, Aliquot Resonance and more (all of which are editable.)

The AiR engine is then delivered through Casio’s new Spatial Sound System which uses 4 independently driven full-range speakers with 32 watts of power, which in turn are housed within a rigid support structure of wood and resin specifically engineered for projection. Side Duffers are also equipped which helps spread the sound through a wider area.

A Surround Sound feature, Hall Simulators, Reverbs and a host of other effects offer the user a wide degree of control over the sound, and the new Piano Position allows you to optimize the sound according to how and where the piano is positioned with the touch of a button.

Powerful real-time controls such as assignable knobs and a pitch bend wheel speak to the PX-S7000’s readiness for performance situations on the stage or in the studio.

Connectivity:

The PX-S7000 has the connectivity options one would expect from a piano-focused stage instrument. Discrete ¼” line outputs (L/MONO, R) ensure you won’t have to fumble with adapters when you need more juice, and USB Type A and B give you what you need to use the PX-S7000 as a controller part of a larger rig.

There’s also a microphone input with its own volume knob, so performers who sing and play will find this very intriguing.

There’s of course also a connector for the triple pedal unit, and you have the option of swapping the floating SP34 here instead. Another pedal input for an expression pedal, as well as dual headphone jacks, can be found here as well.

Casio also includes the WU-BT10 at no extra charge and this gives the PX-S7000 Bluetooth MIDI and Audio connectivity. This allows you to stream music directly through the S7000’s premium speakers and access apps like Casio’s new Music Space app.

Notable Features:

The most notable aspect of the PX-S7000 worth highlighting has to be the overall design. Simply put, this is a seriously good-looking piano. The wood grain finished stand is truly elegant, and the piano is available in three gorgeous finishes, including a stunning yellow polish Casio refers to as Harmonious Mustard.
