Product Overview
The C. Bechstein A6 Academy is designed to satisfy the most discerning pianists, combining masterful handcraftsmanship with top-tier materials at Bechstein’s renowned production facility. This state-of-the-art site seamlessly blends traditional German craftsmanship with advanced modern technology.
Engineered by Bechstein’s R&D team in Saxony, the A6 epitomizes Bechstein’s tonal philosophy, where every material contributes to an unimpeded energy flow, ensuring no energy is wasted. This results in a piano that resonates fully with each note played.
With over 7 months and 120 man-hours dedicated to its construction, the A6 offers a large, hand-built German upright piano experience at a fraction of the cost of other premium German uprights.
Action
The Silver Line action of the A6, crafted entirely in Germany, adheres to Bechstein’s stringent Action Engineering and Geometry standards. Influenced by the renowned Renner action found in many European upright pianos, it delivers a refined smoothness and responsiveness. Bechstein’s unique Friction Control System optimizes the combination of weight and friction coefficients, providing unparalleled control and playability.
Sound
The A6 impresses with its powerful sound, often mistaken for a grand piano. It boasts an exceptional sustain, surpassing typical upright pianos, and delivers a clear, distinct bass. German Red Beech bridges, precisely manufactured with CNC technology, ensure excellent sound transmission and a broad tonal range with a distinctly European character.
Hammers
Custom-tailored hammers, featuring mahogany cores and New Zealand wool, are meticulously crafted in Bechstein’s own facility in Germany. Each hammer is individually voiced by expert technicians, ensuring the highest quality and precision.
Soundboard
The A6’s soundboard is made from slow-growing European Alpine Mountain Spruce, harvested at elevations of 800 to 1,000 meters. The high pulp-to-grain ratio of this wood imparts superior sound and resonance properties, contributing to the piano’s powerful yet complex sound.
Cabinet
The frame of the A6 not only provides structural integrity but also plays a crucial role in the piano’s tonal quality. The sand-cast iron frame withstands 15 metric tonnes of tension, and the solid back posts, secured with copper beech dowels, reduce distortion and support consistent tuning. This construction enhances Bechstein’s energy flow concept, allowing upper treble partials to be easily produced and modulated.
The Bechstein A6 Academy is a testament to exquisite craftsmanship and innovative engineering, offering a rich, powerful sound and exceptional playability, perfect for the serious pianist.
